Gulayan sa "Nayon"
I and my wife call it "Gulayan sa 'Nayon'" because whenever we buy our vegetables there we're reminded of typical provincial barrios. It's along Assistant Street just before you get to Finance Street coming from Norie Mart on General Avenue.
Notice the huge tree beside plus the colorful tropical fruit and vegetable displays--they make it have a Nayon quality on it. And sometimes, the owners listen to a radio program that sounds like what rural folks listen to. Instantly, you feel like in the middle of a rice field.
Often, regular buyers here gather and chat a bit as they sample the items, typical of corner stores in a regular hometown. You can also buy some rice cakes wrapped in traditional banana or coconut tree leaves, and sometimes fresh fish are also sold. I like buying ripe guavas here for breakfast. We often prefer to buy our vegetables at Gulayan sa Nayon than elsewhere because of the rustic ambiance and the free flow of the wind.
When I think of cooking Pinakbet or the wife thinks of cooking Dining-ding or Bulanlang, we go here for the veggies and bagoong (fish preserve).
