Laura's Sisig

We fondly call this eatery Laura's Sisig. Actually, I still don't know its name, though I've eaten my lunch countless times here. It serves good sisig [sizzling pork, chicken, or fish meat] so we decided to just call it Sisig. And because the lady owner and cashier is named Laura, we call it Laura's Sisig. It's right at the corner of Accounting and Assistant Streets in the three-bedroom area, near Nori Mart.

The Assistant Street side has a large glass panel window, so I like eating on that side as I watch people and cars go past by. That side also is nearest to the wall-mounted TV available inside. On the Accounting Street side is the open area where tables are set to enjoy outdoor picnic meal style. On this side is also where the cook, "Manang," does all the food preparation and cooking along with her assistants.

I can still remember when, back in the 70s, this lot used to be a one-level bungalow house with a half-basketball court at the side and occupied by a military man and his wife with their two boys. Anyway..

Laura's Sisig often has meat and fish dishes, like Dinuguan, Adobo, Chicken Curry, Menudo, and Sarsyado. They offer a veggie dish periodically, and it's mostly eggplant omelet or Tortang Talong. Vegetable dishes, I found out, quickly lost appeal once you re-heat it 2 or 3 times, unlike meat and fish which were more consistent in form and texture.

Anyway, I enjoy their food and the good and prompt service given their patrons. Sometimes they grill fish or offer pork barbecue that fills the air around with an appetizing aroma. Some office folks even travel some distance just to have their lunch here, like employees of Maynilad and Bayantel. And more and more office people nearby opt to lunch here as well. Often, I'm impressed by the costly cars parked along its side, indicating the caliber of customers who eat here.

You've got to try it sometime. And I recommend their Chicken Tinola, Sinigang na Bangus sa Bayabas [with huge fish variety], boneless Daing na Bangus, and Lengua. Moreover, you're bound to catch the latest news in town from customers who happily and loudly share stories as they eat.
